Volleyball Sets Their Sights

EAST PEORIA – The Illinois Central College volleyball team will begin its quest for its tenth NJCAA National Tournament berth in the last 11 years ranked No. 4 in the country in the NJCAA Division II National Poll.

Last weekend the Cougars opened up their season at the Battle of the Dells Tournament going 3-1.  They beat Southwestern Community College of Iowa, Carl Sandburg College and Waubonsee Community College who received votes in the national poll.  The Cougars fell to No. 12 preseason ranked Kansas City Kansas Community College in a tight four set match.

The challenging opener is merely a prelude to one of the most challenging schedules in the country. All told, the Cougars will face 19 teams that appeared in the opening NJCAA Division I or Division II polls. The Cougars will take on 15 of their fellow Division II teams that were either ranked or receiving votes, while also facing four of the top 20 NJCAA Division I teams during the regular season.

The Cougars open at home in a newly renovated Lorene Ramsey Gymnasium. Coach Sinclair and the squad host the University of St. Francis in a scrimmage at 7 p.m. on Aug. 28 and then will face Lincoln Trail College on Friday at 6 p.m.

On Sept. 5th and 6th the Cougars travel to Kirkwood Community College and face #2 Cowley County, #3 Johnson County, #5 Central Community and #7 Kirkwood.
